Retrieve: Slow roll near bottom with brief pauses

Look for: Bait activity, clean water, and a visible depth change

If it is not happening: If you do not see bait or get a bite in about 20 minutes, move to the secondary target.

Fish the down-current edge rather than the center of the channel.

Retrieve: Count down, then swim just above bottom

Look for: Moving water, bait holding on the edge, and a controlled drift

If it is not happening: Use this fallback when the first area is quiet or the breeze makes the flats difficult to fish.
